💚 „Contribute socially and environmentally“ 💚

This beautiful scarves were natural dyed and ethically crafted in a tiny village around 3 hours outside of Kathmandu by a collective of women dyers.

The idea of natural dyeing was originally founded by a group of five women.

Trained in natural dyeing by the Business Service Centre (BSC), they decided in 2009 to start a business to support not only themselves but also their community in Nepal.

During their trip together, they received Nepal's first Nepalese prize for social entrepreneurship, the Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award in 2012, and were recognized for their efforts to use natural dyes instead of chemicals, to recycle waste from the community forest, and to empower the women in their community.

The goal of the women is to be a social enterprise in all aspects, not only as a business, but also by making social/ecological impact in every possible way.

This scarves are seasonally independent and can be worn as a shawl, stole, cape or wraparound scarf. Suitable for men and women.

Materials:

◀︎ Hemp ▶︎

Hemp fiber is one of the strongest and most durable textile fibers. It holds shape and prevents garments from stretching out. The resistant fabric has a cooling effect in hot weather and keeps you warm in cold weather; the garment has excellent moisture-regulating properties, can absorb up to 30% moisture (and release it again through evaporation) and - unlike garments made of synthetic fibres - remains fresh and odourless. The fibre is also dirt-repellent and quite tear-resistant. It is is soft and comfortable to wear even on sensitive skin; the reason: the fine electrical voltage level corresponds to that of our skin, so hemp clothing is antistatic. No pesticides are needed, this also explains the good skin compatibility of the final product; from an ecological point of view (high durability of the fabrics, i.e. sustainability, pesticide-free cultivation, i.e. environmental friendliness) the hemp fibre and its processing into textiles has only advantages.

◀︎ Bamboo ►

acts like a natural deodorant. Because bamboo absorbs the moisture, no strong odours can develop. The skin remains dry and cool.
The rapid growth of bamboo requires few resources. It requires much smaller amounts of water than cotton and no pesticides at all. No special care is necessary either, because the processing does not require the use of chemical substances. Bamboo is 100% degradable. Bamboo grows incredibly fast, in some cases a whole meter per day. Large quantities can therefore be harvested each year without endangering the entire population.

Ecological cultivation and dyeing with non-toxic and/or vegetable dyes as well as fair working and production conditions are what we want to support and promote. The cultivation of organic hemp and bamboo is much more gentle on the soil and for the farmers who do not come into contact with the fertiliser poison. Also the vegetable and non-toxic dyeing of fabrics is better for the environment, the dyers and those who wear the garment directly on their skin. Not every shade of colour can be dyed with vegetable dyes. But who wants to wear trendy colours on the body for harmful or poisonous colours? I think it's much more important to concentrate on what variety of vegetable dyes is already available.

For dyeing with plants or plant components you need patience and perseverance, as the procedure takes several hours to days, depending on what you dye with and what result you want to achieve. Additionally there are the pre-treatment and drying phases.

Each cloth is dyed individually. Due to the herbal mixtures and the natural way of dyeing in pots, irregularities and slight differences in color may occur. We did our best to make the on-screen display as much as possible compatible with the scarf as it is.

👉 NOTE: Please note that hemp is a natural product. Each item is handmade, handwoven and therefore unique. The color and shape of the item may differ slightly.

💧Care & maintenance💧

In order to enjoy your product for a long time, the right care is important.

Spot cleaning, hand wash recommended!

For indoor and outdoor soiling, we recommend washing the item with cold or hand-warm water by hand or on a very gentle cold cycle. Use ecological laundry products or a mild organic soap. Let your item dry in the air, repeat the process if necessary. Dry cleaning is not recommended, nor is drying in the dryer. Please keep in mind that heat makes natural fabrics shrink a bit and that all fabrics get softer after washing.
